Unique 3D printed parts for niche automotive.
Description
3D printed Ford Explorer ST cupholder inserts. During the day these inserts are white and black, come nightfall, they transform into illuminated inserts. The color is changed using the ambient light settings in the car's operating system. No wiring required, the inserts reflect the light from the illuminated rings in the cupholder. Inserts use a locating pin on the bottom to line up with the dimple in the console to prevent the insert from rotating and keeping the correct alignment.
Optional colored outline - This does not affect illumination during night, just adds some flare for daytime.
Note: not all explorer ST's were equipped with the ambient lighting option. Please see the inserts for the non-illuminated ST's if you don't have this option.
The product you purchased is printed using a Fused Deposition Model 3D printer. The surface of the product is designed to have a textured finish. If you wish, you can sand the surface smooth using progressively finer sandpaper with a final wipe-down using acetone. Additionally, if you notice that the luster of the product has dulled, a quick wipe with acetone will restore the luster. Please abide by the safety precautions published by the acetone product.
The filament used to print this product is Acrylic Styrene Acrylonitrile (ASA). This material has great UV resistance (will not fade or yellow) and has excellent heat resistance characteristics. The insert is approximately 1/2" tall and will position the drink slightly higher in the cupholder. Factory rubber inserts must be removed prior to installation.
